My name is Ila, and I am a rising senior at Syracuse University studying political science. I am from Englewood, New Jersey. This summer, I have the fantastic opportunity to join the Bloom Arts Foundation as a summer intern! I’ve had such an incredible experience thus far, and I can’t wait to see what the rest of summer brings!
I started off the internship by traveling to Los Angeles. I had quite a busy and exciting week observing different parts of Bloom and seeing its impactful presence in the community.
This included Bloom’s dance class recital at the Boys and Girls Club of Burbank. As someone who grew up dancing, I can confidently say it is a fantastic way to step outside your comfort zone, make friends, and find a new passion. I still keep in touch with my dance friends, and performing on stage instilled confidence that has helped me in life and made me comfortable speaking and presenting in front of others.
We went early and watched the kids practice before the recital started. It was clear that they were very excited and had a great time doing their dances. The teachers bonded with the kids and were very encouraging and sweet. When they were on stage, the kids were smiling brightly and having the time of their lives. It made me so happy to see that these kids appreciated dance so much, just as I do, and I would not be surprised if some of them grew up to be dancers!
Bloom Arts Foundation is bringing kids a sense of joy, confidence, and fond memories that they will cherish for the rest of their lives.
